When we invited our customers to help us design the first of our "Next Generation" CAT® hydraulic excavators, they gave us three priorities: make it safe, simple, and reliable. We responded by developing the Cat 6020B excavator, which offers the desired simplicity and versatility with valuable modern design features that set it apart from the competition.

The 6020B model offers excellent visibility and has a cabin designed for comfort, safety, and efficiency. The removable and replaceable power module helps facilitate maintenance. The 6020B model offers 25% higher energy efficiency compared to other excavators in its class, resulting in efficiency and cost advantages. In addition, the proven C32 Engine meets emission standards without requiring diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), saving time and reducing maintenance costs.

Security

Driver protection (superior protection) - Certified cabin with safety glass windshield. Excellent visibility thanks to the position of the cabin which offers a clear view of the excavation and loading areas, a floor window that provides a view of the chains, LED lighting and optional surveillance center with camera. Several emergency stop switches, including a pull switch accessible from the ground. Safer access and exit thanks to wide non-slip walkways, a retractable access ladder placed at a 45° angle, and three exit points for quick emergency exits. Safer maintenance thanks to a lockable battery switch and a starter lock switch, as well as secure access to the power module components from the machine platform and counterweight.

Cabin

Silent and fully pressurized cabin, equipped with a driver's seat and ergonomic controls, excellent insulation, complete air distribution system in the cabin via the efficient heating/ventilation/air conditioning unit and several ideally positioned air vents. Easily accessible ergonomic manipulators with an electro-hydraulic servo control that offers dynamic and precise response without hydraulic pipes present in the cabin. Improved control precision thanks to ergonomic manipulator controls and five hydraulic circuits that allow simultaneous control of two cylinder movements, two translation movements, and orientation. Improved training capability, with a patented 3-seat design, an elevated observer workstation, and easy-to-use dual emergency stop buttons in the cabin. 10-inch high-definition color touchscreen including fault diagnosis aids and machine documentation.

Reliability And Longevity

Better resistance to wear of the undercarriage components thanks to a floating push tube that ensures uniform wear of the sliding of the idle wheel and extended component lifespan; low-wear drive system thanks to surface hardening by induction and the use of a large number of sprocket teeth; optional undercarriage protection kit for rough terrain. The design of the retaining ring chains (PPR2), a Cat exclusive, allows them to resist rod displacement and link cracking, ensuring reliable sealing and maximum lifespan for the chains. Structures designed and manufactured to withstand the most intensive excavation conditions, with high-strength steel; full penetration, profiled and ground welds at critical junctions; and booms and arms subjected to stress relief treatment after welding. The independent and efficient oil cooling circuit protects and extends the lifespan of hydraulic components.

Performance and Productivity

Increased efficiency of up to 25% thanks to hydraulic optimization, which dynamically affects individual pumps or groups of pumps to provide the exact flow and pressure needed for each hydraulic function. Durable C32 Cat engine offering unmatched performance, high power output, and proven reliability, and which has demonstrated its ability to withstand the harsh conditions of mining sites worldwide. Engine optimized for low fuel consumption at 1800 rpm and low speeds, accompanied by significant fuel consumption gains due to the quality of engine integration into the machine. Maximum availability, without interruption of work, for engine regeneration, engine derating, or cold weather treatment of the secondary fluid.

Soil Attack Buckets and Tools

Buckets and ground engaging tools designed to optimize long lifespan and productivity, ideally suited for your excavator and application. Integrated to function as part of the machine's circuit, allowing you to achieve optimal productivity levels and minimize cost per ton. Variety of sizes and wear packages for ideal adaptation to your excavator and application. Four shapes of hammerless ground engaging tool tips, specially designed for the 6020B and requiring no special tools for removal and installation. Wear sets that protect your investment, including special reinforcement material and lip protectors, fin guards, and heel guards.

Easy Maintenance

Modular design that facilitates on-site assembly: in just 14 days under typical conditions. Exchangeable power module that can be quickly replaced with a spare component, then transported for repair in a safe, convenient, and clean environment. Easy access to components and exceptional weather protection thanks to the advanced and spacious power module. Easy access to circuit components through the hydraulic distributor mounted on the boom, and maintenance fluid filling points and flying cable socket accessible at ground level. Easier maintenance of the undercarriage thanks to the automatic chain tensioning system that requires no manual adjustment; design allowing for external repairs; and PPR2 chains that can be easily maintained with a main joint.

Durability

The C32 Engine, subject to very strict standards, complies with Tier 4 Final EPA emissions standards for the United States/Stage V for the European Union without requiring diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), which saves time and reduces costs during maintenance. Soundproofed power module to maintain low noise levels. Preservation of raw materials, energy conservation, and emission reduction through Cat Reman and Cat Rebuild programs that restore end-of-life components to a like-new condition.
