Optimize Performance
Each Cat engine compliant with Tier2/StageII or equivalent standard is equipped with a set of proven components for electronic, fuel, air, and aftertreatment circuits. Proven electronic, pneumatic, fuel, and aftertreatment components for peak performance and long life. Improved emission control and fuel economy. Advanced MEUI-C electronically controlled mechanical unit injectors provide higher injection pressures and improve injection rate accuracy. These durable injectors enhance responsiveness while controlling soot levels. An innovative air management system optimizes air flow, power, efficiency, and reliability. The CX31Cat six-speed forward and one-speed reverse transmission features the Advanced Productivity Electronic Control Strategy (APECS) and Electronic Clutch Pressure Control (ECPC) for smooth gear shifting, improved acceleration, and increased productivity. A high-capacity torque converter, configured for construction applications, efficiently transmits high engine power to the lower drivetrain. The engine compression brake improves braking responsiveness while increasing power.
Automatic commands
The Automatic Traction Control (AATC) command engages the axle differential locks and inter-axle locks "on the fly", providing the driver with optimal traction based on variable conditions. The clutches automatically disengage to avoid any conflicts in tight turns. The AATC reduces tire and driveline wear, eliminating efficiency losses due to incorrect manual use. The switch on the new ejector/retraction dump body starts automatic control of the machine's systems to stop machine movement and eject the loaded material at the correct speed in rpm. The hill start assist automatically engages the brake if the driver removes their foot from the brake pedal to prevent the machine from rolling backwards. Extra-strong construction
The three axles promote stability thanks to oscillating chassis with lateral tie rods. You can work at speeds that ensure your productivity with confidence while virtually eliminating impact loads on the dump truck components. The front suspension oscillates ±6° under the control of large-bore, low-pressure cylinders to provide a smoother ride. The rear suspension features a step and long-life suspensions that optimize driving and load retention. A new fully undercarriage-mounted oil bath disc brake system prevents the introduction of contaminants, thus extending the machine's lifespan and availability.
Mastery and driving comfort
A spacious cabin ensures the driver's comfort throughout their shift in a 4dB quieter environment than the previous model. An intuitive lever combining ejection/transmission improves cycle times by reducing control movements. The trainer/passenger seat is fully padded, with a wide retractable seat belt ensuring safety and comfort. The redesigned and spacious side storage compartment is heated or air-conditioned by the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system according to the driver's preferences. The pneumatic suspension seat offers better comfort and a wider range of adjustments. The front/rear insulation significantly reduces vibrations and shocks. Every operator will find the adjustment that suits them for a comfortable and controlled shift. The standard cooling/heating system ensures comfort in all circumstances. The optional four-point driver's seat belt allows the operator to comfortably stay in position on all terrains. Thanks to the integrated panoramic dashboard, the driver easily accesses all indicators and controls of the machine. You experience the same sensations as in a car and have the industrial power you expect from Caterpillar. The color display panel contains pages related to performance and conditions, a rear camera video display, and machine payload (depending on equipment). Make and receive calls in the cabin via the optional Bluetooth™ entertainment system.
Designed to be efficient
Front chassis with oversized compartments for high resistance to strong stresses. Chassis design reduces stress at the joint and optimizes suspension geometry. Rear chassis with double compartments reduces stress points and improves lifespan. The three-point oscillating axle front suspension offers excellent driving quality. The articulated/oscillating hitch ensures steering control and ground contact of all wheels on rough surfaces. The design of the ejector bucket provides a large receiving surface that consistently ensures high load capacity and therefore better productivity. The blade allows for clean material unloading and prevents incomplete dumping of the bucket. The transfer case distributes power between the tractor and trailer for optimal traction. Oil bath clutch guarantees long lifespan. Dual-circuit braking system on all wheels. The full-power hydraulic circuit operates the oil bath multidisc brakes under the housing. The independent front and rear circuits and accumulators allow for smooth control. The parking brake on the central axle is elevated to avoid damage. Tightened by a spring, released by hydraulic pressure.
Because productive time matters
Design, manufacturing, and customer service from Caterpillar ensure exceptional performance and availability. Long maintenance intervals keep your machine in operation. Lubrication points are grouped near the joint to facilitate and speed up maintenance. Universal joints are sealed and lubricated for long-lasting use. The optional automatic lubrication system saves you time and includes alerts via ProductLink for low grease levels and anomalies. The radiator unit is located behind the cabin, protecting it, and uses long-life coolant to extend drain intervals. The electrical service center is located in the cabin and provides an electrical port, a diagnostic connector, and a Cat data link connector that can be used with a laptop equipped with Electronic Technician (ET) software. The tilting cabin and access panel provide easy access to the transmission, drive shafts, hydraulic pumps, and electrical and hydraulic interfaces. Convenient maintenance points are located on the left side of the engine, under the electric lift hood.
Other sustainable development features
Caterpillar designs and operates with respect for the environment. The Cat C13 Engine incorporating the Cat Clean Emissions Module (CEM) complies with EPA/Stage IV Tier 4 Final emission standards. The system uses both ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) or B20 biodiesel blended with ULSD. * All Cat articulated trucks in the C series are designed for long life cycles with machines using remanufactured components and renovations to optimize the use of each part and minimize waste. * The volume of hydraulic oil and engine oil circuits has been reduced, thereby reducing the amount of waste when replacing oils.
