Overview

Move More Materials While Consuming Less Fuel

The 789 CAT® mining truck is the most popular 193-ton (213-ton US) truck in the mining industry, and for good reason. Specifically designed for high-performance mining operations, the 789 excels in its primary function, regardless of the applications or conditions. It has a reputation for durability and reliability while meeting emissions standards worldwide. It consumes less fuel, has extended safety options, and reduces downtime. It offers speed on slopes and high production capacity due to a payload advantage over the competition. Over 30 new features improve performance and ensure driver safety, comfort, and control. The 789 offers the lowest cost per ton in its class, as well as high reliability, reducing overall operating costs.

Advantages

Faster and More Productive

Over 5% faster on slopes and 10% higher payload than competing trucks

Extended Engine Life by 12%

Thanks to improvements in the cylinder head and crankshaft

Up to 9% Fuel Savings with Tier 2 Standard

No fuel consumption during deceleration and reduced overall fluid and fuel consumption.

The Productivity

The 789 offers a faster slope speed than competing dump trucks thanks to the efficiency of the 3516E 16-cylinder engine and the mechanical powertrain. The wide range of tires allows mines to take advantage of higher speeds, especially in high-speed applications, on long routes, on flat terrain. The electronic control strategy for advanced productivity (APECS, Advanced Power Electronic Control Strategy) allows for shorter cycle times and faster acceleration thanks to more continuous torque and rim effort. The 789 has an advantage in terms of empty weight, allowing it to carry more with each load and offer a higher cost per ton than competing dump trucks. Productivity optimization features such as hill start assist with anti-rollback function, optimized traction control, dynamic stability control (DSC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), speed limitation, and machine speed control improve machine responsiveness and maneuverability while optimizing cycle times and reducing driver fatigue.

Security

Large non-slip surfaces and handrails, as well as an optional motorized access ladder, improve access and exit. A patented braking system provides immediate and constant braking and deceleration, improving maneuverability. Visibility is improved by wide-angle mirrors and a camera that provides a 360-degree view of the surroundings (optional) for an overhead view. The Cat MineStar™ object detection system combines radar and camera systems to alert the driver of the presence of light vehicles or stationary hazards in close proximity. The driver safety system (optional) alerts the driver if signs of fatigue or distraction are detected.

Driver's comfort

The cabin offers 34% more space for the driver compared to models in the D series. It is 17% wider, offers 11% more legroom, and 19% more shoulder space. The controls, levers, and switches are arranged to facilitate their use. With a reduced sound pressure level (SPL) of 40%, automatic temperature regulation, and cabin filtration, the driver benefits from a safer and more comfortable environment. A walk-through cabin with a fully adjustable center console, an easy-to-adjust seat, and increased legroom make this cabin an ideal tool for drivers of all sizes. The next-generation seat is compatible for four-point restraint and incorporates features such as tilt and extension of the thigh area, adjustable lumbar support and reinforcement with pneumatic suspension, as well as heated and cooled cushions.

Efficiency and productivity of the driver

High-resolution screens improve access to information. Machine data, commands, and guidance information are grouped on two 10-inch screens. The AutoHoist function (optional) automatically raises the bucket and controls the engine speed, simplifying operations and reducing cycle times. The speed framing provides the driver with real-time feedback on how to drive the dump truck to optimize productivity. The payload monitoring system has more precise measurements, providing immediate feedback to the driver.

Ease of maintenance

The new modular heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) system is more reliable and groups the components to allow for quick removal and replacement. A modular radiator reduces the time for engine removal and installation, allowing for exterior renovations to be carried out on the dump truck. New remote update and remote troubleshooting features provide immediate access to the latest software updates and allow for remote diagnosis of anomalies. The time spent on regular maintenance procedures is reduced thanks to features such as extended maintenance intervals, ground-level access to tanks, filters, drains, and engine shutdown, easier access to daily maintenance points and major components, a maintenance platform with engine access, and an optional quick-fill maintenance center. A 100% air-free electric start option eliminates the need for maintenance of the machine's air system and improves productive time.

Cat Bins

Cat bins are the best choice for the 789. They are designed to be an integral part of the entire vehicle system, ensuring maximum chassis life. The high-performance (HP) bin is characterized by a lightweight, simplified, and durable design that provides full coverage of the machine at the front and extended protection above the machine. Available in multiple sizes, the MSD II bin is ideal for old mines where there are good operating and maintenance practices. It can be reinforced or not, with a site-specific bin designed to maximize performance. Designed for tough applications, whether sites are virgin or in operation, the double-slope bin offers excellent load retention, maintains a low center of gravity with optimal load distribution, and reduces shocks. The X bin incorporates the latest structural designs and offers more volume for less weight. It is a Cat-specific bin design for mining work. Its dimensions are ideal for meeting the specific requirements of heavy-duty applications.

Durability

The 789 is designed to use less fuel, which reduces engine emissions. Additionally, no fuel is consumed during deceleration. The Tier 4 Final compliant engine reduces NOx and particle emissions. The Cat 3516E offers several choices in terms of emissions: a fuel-optimized engine for less regulated countries or, optionally, an engine compliant with the Tier 4 Final emissions standards of the US EPA / Stage V of the EU. The 789 engine is compatible with diesel fuel blended with low-carbon intensity fuels such as biofuels and renewable fuels. Features such as oil renewal systems, continuous rear axle filtration, extended-life filters, and longer maintenance intervals reduce the amount of waste disposed into the environment. By refurbishing machines and components, Cat Rebuild and Cat Reman programs preserve raw materials, save energy, and reduce emissions.

Versatility

The Cat 3516E engine has proven its ability to provide high power and reliability in the most demanding mining applications. The mechanical drive train and Powershift transmission offer unmatched efficiency and control on steep slopes, unstable ground, and tracks with high rolling resistance. Application-specific capabilities are available for extreme ambient conditions and high-altitude applications. The 789 allows you to select the tire option that best suits your application, with larger tires for flat terrain, long distances, and high speeds. The chassis is designed to maintain the same turning diameter while accommodating larger tires. The 789 is available in two versions to meet emissions standards. The Tier 4 Final engine (optional) meets the strictest standards, while the LRC engine is available in less regulated countries.
