Overview
A Pioneer in its Category
The CAT® 789D Mining Truck can boast a long history of proven performance in a wide variety of applications. It offers the lowest cost per ton in its size category, ensuring an overall decrease in your operating costs, as well as the reliability and reduced costs that come with a long lifespan: from the engine and powertrain to the components, brakes, and chassis. It also provides high speeds on slopes and significant production capacity thanks to its advantage over the competition in terms of payload. The versatile 789D Truck offers engine options to meet regulatory standards or specific application needs, such as extreme temperatures, high altitude, or areas requiring noise reduction. It also includes
safety improvements, such as diagonal ladders, wide walkways, and an optional motorized access system, to protect your most important resource: your employees.

The Productivity
The 789D offers a faster slope speed than competing dump trucks thanks to the efficiency of the 16-cylinder engine of the 3500 Series and the mechanical powertrain. The 23% net torque reserve provides unmatched overload force during acceleration, on steep slopes, and on uneven terrain. The torque reserve adapts to gear shift points to ensure maximum efficiency and fast cycle times. The wide range of tires allows mines to take advantage of higher speeds, especially in high-speed applications, on long routes, on flat terrain. The 789D has an advantage in terms of empty weight, allowing it to carry more with each load and offer a cost per ton 10 to 15% higher than that of competing dump trucks, depending on the application.
Security
Access and egress are safer thanks to the 600 mm (24 in) wide stairs and walkways, non-slip surfaces, handrails, and optional electric access ladder. A patented braking system provides immediate and durable braking and deceleration, improving maneuverability. The 789D Haul Truck is designed to offer excellent panoramic visibility and unobstructed sightlines, enhanced by wide-angle mirrors, repositioned air and grease tanks, and electric starting batteries. The optional Cat MineStar™ object detection system combines radar and camera systems to alert the driver of the presence of light vehicles or stationary hazards in close proximity. Dumping operations are safer with a dump body lift indicator, a dump body retention cable, and a reverse neutralizer during dumping.
Driver's comfort
Three cabin options (standard, Deluxe, and cold weather) allow you to select the features that best suit your application. All options offer an ergonomic layout, excellent panoramic visibility, as well as controls, levers, switches, and gauges positioned for easy use. The cabin is equipped with numerous features that enhance comfort and reduce fatigue, such as a pneumatic suspension seat, vibration reduction, automatic air conditioning, and soundproofing.
Easy Maintenance
The time spent on regular maintenance procedures is reduced thanks to easy access to daily maintenance points and key components; ground-level access to tanks, filters, drains, and engine shutdown; a maintenance platform that allows access to the engine, steering hydraulic tank, and battery compartment; and an optional quick-fill maintenance center that allows for quick fuel and oil exchange. Thanks to easy maintenance and 500-hour maintenance intervals, the machine combines a high level of availability and productivity. The electrical connectors are dust and moisture resistant, the harnesses are braided for protection, and the wires are color-coded to facilitate diagnosis and repairs. The individual cylinder heads are interchangeable for easy removal and visual inspection of internal parts. The onboard VIMS diagnostic systems constantly monitor all machine functions and vital parts to quickly locate anomalies and speed up repairs.
Durability And Long Lifespan
With a box-like design consisting of two forged parts and 21 cast parts in areas subjected to high stress, the chassis of the 789D Dump Truck also features continuous penetrating and enveloping welds that prevent damage from torsion without overloading the machine. The mild steel chassis offers flexibility, durability, and impact resistance. Resiliently mounted on the main chassis to reduce vibrations and noise, the full ROPS cabin is designed as an extension of the dump truck chassis. Component lifespan is improved thanks to the standard equipped rear axle's continuous filtration function. Cleaner oil promotes lubrication, extending the lifespan. The chassis, powertrain, engine, and components are designed to be refurbished, offering multiple lifetimes of like-new performance at a fraction of the new price.
Durability
We have designed the 789D with a number of improvements that reduce the impact on the environment. Features such as oil renewal systems and continuous rear axle filtration reduce the amount of waste released into the environment. We continue to search for alternative energy sources such as biofuels and a dynamic gas blending solution provided by liquefied natural gas, and we are implementing power options such as electrification and trolley to find new ways to reduce emissions. Cat engines are compatible with diesel fuel blended with low carbon intensity fuels, such as FAME biodiesel (fatty acid methyl ester). They are also compatible with renewable fuels such as HVO (Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil) and GTL (Gas-to-Liquid) alternative fuels that replace diesel. HVO and GTL can be used in all Cat engines, regardless of the blending level and up to 100%. By refurbishing machines and components, Cat Rebuild and Cat Reman programs, which preserve raw materials, save energy, and reduce emissions.
Versatility
The 789D offers two engine options to help you comply with regulatory standards or meet specific application needs. Both the EUI 3516B and 3516C Cat options offer high power and reliability in the most demanding mining applications. The mechanical drive train and Powershift transmission provide unmatched efficiency and control on steep slopes, unstable ground, and tracks with high rolling resistance. Application-specific features are available for extreme ambient conditions, high-altitude applications, and requiring extra quiet operation. The 789D allows you to select the tire option that best suits your application, with larger tires for flat terrain, long distances, and high speeds. Transportation conditions are improved by increased tire life and significant reduction in tire change costs.
Technological solutions
MineStar Fleet is a fleet monitoring system that allows for the measurement, management, and optimization of all transportation operations. With the MineStar Detect system, you can equip your 789D with cameras to provide your drivers with better visibility of their surroundings. You can also combine cameras and radar into a system that automatically alerts drivers of any dangers. The MineStar Detect driver safety system in the cabin intervenes when it detects fatigue or distraction. Machine health monitoring solutions allow for a proactive approach to maintenance. MineStar Command for transportation, an autonomous transportation solution proven to increase productivity by up to 30%, is offered as an adaptable kit for the 789D.
