Performances

Engine Cat diesel engines are built to the strictest quality standards with tight tolerances and proven design parts, such as pistons, camshaft, engine block, and fuel circuit, to provide excellent performance and a very long lifespan. The Cat C18 ACERT is a 6-cylinder inline diesel engine used in Cat equipment and extra-heavy-duty trucks. Designed and manufactured by Caterpillar, this engine offers the following advantages to the customer: Gross power (SAE J1995) 446 kW (598 hp) Net power (SAE J1349) 415 kW (557 hp) Rated engine speed of 1,850 rpm Operation up to 3,048 m (10,000 ft) altitude Precise tolerances support higher combustion pressures and contribute to better energy efficiency Water-cooled turbocharger with boost pressure limiter and titanium impeller ensures long lifespan and excellent performance Electronically controlled torque and fuel consumption curves specifically integrated for the 772G model Precise fuel injection using the MEUI™ electronic injection system and mechanical control Low-pressure fuel lines up to the injectors Engine oil filter replacement every 500 hours under normal operating conditions Noise and vibration reduction for smooth operation and long component lifespan Available in versions compliant with equivalent standards to EPA Tier 2 for the United States/Stage II for the European Union OR equivalent to Tier 3/Stage IIIA standards. Transmission The Cat Powershift planetary transmission is a 7-speed automatic transmission suitable for heavy-duty construction applications, especially those involving long climbs. This transmission is managed with APECS, a strategy that provides exceptionally smooth driving and ensures power continuity during gear shifts, for high performance and speeds during climbs. In addition to guaranteeing quick and responsive dump truck operation, APECS controls clutch pressures for lasting reliability. With the Cat drivetrain components in 7th gear, the 772G model achieves a maximum speed of 79.7 km/h (49.5 mph).
Fuel-saving strategies
Standard Economy Mode A switch located inside the cabin activates this mode. This mode reduces engine power. Customers can adjust the savings by reducing the power of the dump truck from 0.5 to 15 percent. Adaptive Economy Mode This economy mode uses electronic circuits and onboard sensors to attempt to reduce power at a steady state. Customers set a productivity threshold above which the dump truck must remain. The dump truck regulates power based on the transport profile and can change power multiple times during a single trip. Automatic Downshifting to Neutral This function can have a significant impact on fuel savings. It puts the vehicle in neutral if the driver is coasting in a forward gear with the brake or retarder engaged. The dump truck automatically engages the forward gear if the brake is released or the accelerator is pressed. Engine Idle Shutdown This function must be activated by the customer. If activated, the dump truck warns the driver that it is about to shut down after a long idle period in the park position. Customers can set the idle time limit. When this limit is reached, the dump truck shuts off the engine. Speed Limitation Speed limitation is a new feature on the G series dump trucks. It is offered as an alternative to gear limitation. It provides customers with benefits in terms of fuel consumption and component wear. Speed limitation allows the dump truck to find the gear and engine speed that offers the best energy efficiency while moving at a given limit. Speed limitation also works with the automatic retarder control (ARC). Transmission Control Strategies Thanks to the APECS transmission strategy, the G series dump trucks offer increased acceleration and torque during gear changes. Quick recovery during gear changes and maximum use of momentum on slopes help reduce fuel consumption.
Braking performances
Cat dump trucks are distinguished by their exceptional braking performance. The design principle is based on long life and excellent performance in quarries, mines, and construction sites. Hydraulic Control Brakes Cat dump trucks are equipped with hydraulic rear brakes and front disc brakes and calipers. Each truck is equipped with a main maneuvering brake, a hydraulic deceleration function, and a parking brake. Each truck is equipped with a main maneuvering brake, a hydraulic deceleration function, and a parking brake. Two hydraulic accumulators generate the necessary pressure for the maneuvering brakes. The second accumulator serves as a backup system. On the rear axle, oil-cooled disc brakes have large discs that offer good fade resistance. The parking brake applies to the rear brakes and can hold a loaded truck stationary on slopes up to 15 percent. The maneuvering brakes can hold a truck stationary on slopes up to 20 percent. Automatic Retarder Control (ARC) The automatic retarder control is standard on the 772G. This function controls the truck's speed by automatically applying braking force when the engine exceeds a predefined speed. Drivers can set a speed between 1,950 and 2,200 rpm. This function is essential as it controls the truck's speed without constantly engaging the driver on long descents; it is smooth for better control and allows for shorter cycle times compared to manual deceleration. As a precaution, the ARC automatically activates to prevent engine overspeed when the truck is in use. Cat Engine Brake Caterpillar offers an optional engine brake. This engine brake works with the ARC to control speed on slopes. By combining engine braking with automatic retarder control, customers can reduce brake component wear while achieving shorter cycle times.
Traction control system
Traction Control System (TCS) If you are operating on wet or slippery surfaces, the 772G is equipped with a traction control system that engages quickly and effectively to control slipping tires. The system is sensitive to steering to distinguish between turning and slipping conditions, allowing the system to engage at low speed and earlier in the event of slipping. Once engaged, the system reacts quickly through the hydraulically controlled maneuver brake, rather than the spring-applied auxiliary brake. The TCS allows for quicker traction recovery by instantly modulating braking and power between the two rear wheel groups, ensuring that your dump truck is always moving and productive. The system's quick response time and low-speed engagement contribute to both longer tire life and improved cycle times. Note: The TCS (Traction Control System) is optional on this machine.
Dumpsters

Caterpillar offers bin options that are suitable for your material types and applications. If properly configured, protected, and maintained, Cat bins can last as long as the dump truck itself. Flat Bottom and Double Slope Bins Flat bottom and double slope bins are equipped with 16mm (0.62 in) Brinell 400 steel reinforcements that are highly resistant to impact. Two types of bottoms are available: flat bottom and double slope. Flat bottom bins are ideal for feeding material into a crusher or gradually unloading material. Double slope bins center the load for better stability and load retention on steeper slopes. Steel Reinforcements Caterpillar offers a unique 16mm (0.62 in) steel reinforcement that can be added to flat bottom and double slope bins to protect them against significant impacts and highly abrasive materials. Quarry Dump Truck Bin Caterpillar offers a quarry dump truck bin for soft limestone quarries. This bin is equipped with a 25mm (0.98 in) Brinell 400 steel bottom and does not require any additional reinforcements for limestone transport. Rubber Reinforcements Customers who load very hard material that causes significant impacts should consider equipping their bin with factory-installed rubber reinforcements. These reinforcements are intended for hard rocks and should not be installed on equipment that may transport clay, cohesive materials, or hot products. 10/10/20 Payload Guidelines Cat bins are designed to carry heavy loads over long distances and on steep terrain; however, overloading a dump truck can harm productivity, reduce tire lifespan, and increase track maintenance costs. Caterpillar's 10/10/20 Payload policy is aimed at enhancing your productivity by optimizing component lifespan and dump truck availability. Your Cat dealer can provide detailed explanations of the 10/10/20 policy. For optimal bin lifespan, Caterpillar recommends not using payloads that exceed 110% more than 10% of the time and ensuring that the average of all loads equals the target payload. The payload should never exceed 120% of the target payload.

Information and monitoring

Advisor Screen and Cat Indicators The Cat indicator block is standard in the cabin. It displays real-time operating data and machine performance. An optional Advisor screen allows for better communication with or from the dump truck. Vims™ The VIMS (Vital Information Management System) is Cat's vital information management system. This information management system is integrated into the engine, chassis, and all other electronic control modules to communicate important information about productivity and machine status. This system uses the Advisor screen to display this data. VIMS reports provide histograms on dump truck usage, payload, and cycle times. These reports can help you manage your fleet or job site and provide productivity levels. Product Link™ Cat Product Link™ allows for remote equipment monitoring to improve overall fleet management efficiency. Incident and diagnostic codes, as well as operating hours, fuel consumption, downtime, and other detailed information, are transmitted to a secure online application, VisionLink®. With its powerful tools, VisionLink provides our customers and their dealers with information such as mapping data, operating and downtime hours, fuel level, and much more. Product Link is not available in all regions. Please contact your local Caterpillar dealer. Dump Truck Production Management System (TPMS) Cat's dump truck production management system is an optional tool that helps you manage your operations. Indicator lights inform the driver that the dump truck can accommodate an additional load (steady green), that it is the last pass (flashing red), or that the truck is loaded (steady red). The dump truck production management system tracks loads, cycle times, and payload data (up to 2,400 cycles) and communicates through the onboard screen or VIMS. It takes two payload measurements; the first after loading and the second when the truck starts in second gear. This allows for greater accuracy. TKPH/TMPH TKPH/TMPH stands for tonne-kilometer per hour/tonne-mile per hour. Available as an option, this onboard tool takes the tire's nominal capacity indicated by the manufacturer and compares it in real-time with ambient temperature, payload, and truck speed. The driver receives a warning when the tires approach their temperature limit. If the tire temperature becomes critical, the dump truck can automatically reduce (or limit) speed to allow for cooling.
