A New Generation That Pushes the Limits
When the time came for us to revisit the CAT® R1700 underground loader, the goal was simple: add value, power, and performance without compromising safety. And we succeeded. With each cycle, the R1700 transports 20% more material than its previous version and is particularly aggressive in the pile. It loads, climbs, transports, and dumps faster. And it is ready to integrate the latest technological advances, including fully autonomous transport, which takes safety and efficiency to a higher level. The R1700 is equipped with numerous features dedicated to the safety of individuals. It is available in three engine versions that limit engine emissions, one of which meets Stage V standards, and adapts to mine ventilation requirements.
Completely redesigned, the R1700, the result of Caterpillar's engineering team's expertise, inaugurates the new generation of high-productivity underground loaders for mines.

Security
Improved visibility, with optimized lighting and camera coverage, optional color screen rear camera, multiple wipers and standard LED lights that provide front and rear lighting. Pre-fire equipment, dedicated extinguishing cartridges and multiple activation points for the fire extinguishing system, including from the cabin. Improved access and evacuation, with non-slip coating on all walking surfaces, new handrail system with full coverage, and two secondary emergency exits. Driver presence detection system, which protects the machine and the driver from uncontrolled movements of the vehicle, with hydraulic circuit neutralization and door sensor. Safer maintenance with a maintenance area located on the cold side of the engine, thermal protection on after-treatment components, integrated locking/tagging points, front linkage axes for locking the handling arms in position, and bolted towing hooks.
Mastering and Driving Comfort
Completely redesigned cabin offering more space, with a lower seated driver for better driving quality and more headroom, adjustable padding for the driver's knees, and more space for foot comfort when using the pedals. Standard air conditioning control with optional pressurized closed cabin, brand new HVAC cover with improved airflow, greater defrosting capacity, and reduced noise levels. Improved ergonomics on all controls, easy-to-use manipulator controls, and cabin mounted on silent blocks to reduce vibration transfers to the driver. The oil-cooled four-wheel braking system ensures excellent vehicle control. The oscillating rear axle ensures contact of all four wheels with the ground for maximum traction and stability at all times, while the non-rotating rear differential reduces tire wear and maximizes traction on uneven terrain.
Performance and Productivity
Fast cycle times thanks to the anti-stall system, which allows the driver to move with confidence at speeds exceeding 5 km/h (3 mph) during loading and transport operations. Hydraulic system that provides significantly higher breakout force during excavation and allows for faster dumping of the machine at the other end of the cycle. Repositioned front linkage cylinders to improve mechanical lifting. Features that ensure high responsiveness, such as the Auto Dig function (automatic excavation), which automates bucket loading, and the pilot-controlled steering circuit, which provides more precise feedback during maneuvers in tight spaces. Hydraulically controlled automatic slowdown function, which allows the driver to gain confidence and be more comfortable on downhill slopes at higher speeds, thus improving cycle times.
Power and Efficiency
C13 engine larger than the previous model for more power and performance, with a 6-cylinder configuration, turbocharger, and air-to-air intercooler. New torque converter with lock-up clutch that engages automatically as soon as the machine shifts into second gear. High-pressure direct fuel injection system, equipped with electronically controlled mechanical unit injector pumps (MEUI™), which electronically monitors driver requests and sensor inputs to optimize engine performance. Cutting-edge hydraulic system, which uses on-demand piston pumps to ensure long life, higher pressures, and overall circuit efficiency, and provides full circuit pressure to the driver when the engine is idling. Resized Cat transmission, governed by APECS software, which allows for smooth gear shifts, even under high torque, and enables the machine to climb slopes more quickly by reducing momentum loss between gear changes.
Godets And G.e.t
New patented bucket design with load distribution management to ensure long service life, larger opening angle to facilitate rock loading, increased tire coverage for easier cleaning and protection, reinforced strength to adapt to higher tearing forces, and increased rigidity of the inner torque tube for optimized resistance to torsion. 10 bucket options, including six sizes of dumping buckets, a bucket for lightweight materials, an ejector bucket option, and two bolt-on assembly options - all designed and manufactured to match their performance capabilities. Three types of Ground Engaging Tools (GET) are available: modular welding tools, which guarantee the reliability of welded parts; Bolt-On-Half-Arrow (BOHA) tools, which offer more wear material and feature a bolt-on design for quick and easy removal and replacement; and the Durilock Lip Shroud system, which allows hammerless installation and maintenance-free retention of ground engaging tools, with three interchangeable tool styles. The Cat Bucket Pro application provides real-time data on GET performance to help you plan maintenance, manage inventory, and know the cost per US tonne.
Easy Maintenance
ECMs housed in a single sealed and air-cooled enclosure, located on the machine maintenance platform, for simplified and clean electrical routing throughout the machine and optimized access and convenience for maintenance personnel. Revised and corrected articulation with simplified hydraulic routing and more space for interventions and cleaning. Modular components that can be removed and reinstalled as a single unit, greatly speeding up machine restoration. Improved access for maintenance operations, with a pivot-opening radiator guard and consolidation of filters and main maintenance tasks in a centralized maintenance section, with oil coolers and batteries located just below. Fuel tank bolted to the chassis, allowing for easy cleaning or replacement in case of damage.
Technology
Remote operation prepared in the factory, with the possibility of integrating the proven MineStar™ CAT® control for underground work, which offers the following advantages: remote control with direct visibility; remote operation; co-pilot mode, which only requires directional input from the driver; and fully autonomous operation. High-resolution dashboard displays with 11 language options for real-time system information access. Machine status in the cabin visible on the digital display and monitored by the Cat Product Link Elite (PLE) system, with optional integrated MineStar Health offerings for proactive maintenance services and predictive equipment analysis. Optional MineStar Fleet software for underground work provides real-time visibility of cycle time, payload, machine position, and other key operational parameters. Optional MineStar Detect software uses a proximity detection system, coupled with a revolutionary communication and tracking network, to prevent incidents and track people and machines in real time.
